Will repeat 2002 violence in Vadodara if any one of us is arrested: Hindutva men threaten Gujarat police

Vadodara: Hindu right-wing men have openly threatened to repeat the 2002 violence in Gujarat when 3,000 Muslims were killed by Hindu mobs if any of their members are arrested by the police. A video of the same has gone viral on social media sites.

In a 1 minute-eleven-second video, a group of supremacists of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, and BJP, warned the Gujarat police for taking any action against Hindutva members.

This comes after the Ram Navami festival when a mob of over 500 persons was booked for assembling on the roads and causing unrest in Vadodara.

“If any of our VHP members is arrested, we will repeat 2002, the whole Vadodara will be burnt. This is not Pakistan, this is Hindus’ Bharat. Don’t forget Gujarat Police you were beaten in Karnavati. Stop eating chicken, and mutton biryani from Muslims,” shouts one of the furious right-wing members.

“Hindu supremacists in Gujarat, India, are openly threatening if any of their members gets arrested, they will repeat 2002, and whole Vadodara will be burnt. Imagine Amritpal saying this in Punjab or a Kashmiri separatist saying this in Kashmir!,” reads a tweet by Ashok Swain.

Earlier, the police arrested 24 persons from the old city of Vadodara. Cops have also booked a mob of over 500 persons for assembling on the roads and causing unrest.

Three policemen were also injured in the incidents while several vehicles were also damaged in the stone pelting that occurred during two processions organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal were passing by these sensitive areas. The police had to lob four tear gas shells to disperse the stone pelters.

“We conducted several combing operations in the old city areas where stone pelting had occurred. Many of the rioters were identified and even arrested. Search is on to find other accused on basis of CCTV footage,” Shamsher Singh, city police commissioner told Times of India.

Pertinently, on 28 February 2002, Hindu mobs who were part of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), unleashed massive violence against Muslims in Gujarat that went on for weeks killing thousands of Muslims.

About 3,000 Muslims were killed. Some 20,000 Muslim homes and businesses and 360 places of worship were destroyed, and roughly 150,000 people were displaced.

The massacre was unleashed after the burning of 59 Karsevaks on board the Sabarmati Express in Godhra which was probed and declared an accident.

Modi, the current Prime Minister of India, was accused of initiating and condoning the violence, instructing police to stand by and let Hindu mobs do acts of violence against Muslims.

Strong evidence links the Modi administration in Gujarat to the carefully orchestrated anti-Muslim attacks.

Hindu mobs had detailed lists of Muslim residents and businesses, and violence occurred within view of police stations.

An independent media, Tehelka, used hidden cameras to capture some of the accused speaking openly about how the attacks had Modi’s blessings.
