Jammu: A Kashmiri student was seriously injured after a scuffle broke out between students of a government medical college, Jammu and outsiders in the institution’s hostel, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said on Monday.

SSP Jammu, Chandan Kohli said that there has been an incident of scuffle between some students and outsiders in GMC Hostel, Jammu. “The police have taken cognizance of the matter and an investigation is going on,” he said.

In a statement, the association said it received distressing calls from GMC Jammu, reporting that a group of Kashmiri students have been injured as a result of a recent altercation over ‘The Kerala Story’ issue.

“One student was attacked with an iron rod and sustained head injuries with 12 stitches,” the association statement mentioned.

Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba accused government of India of promoting and encouraging violence through movies stoking communal fires.

“Shocking that GOI promotes & encourages violence through movies stoking communal fires. The blood of innocents is being spilled to quench the BJPs insatiable thirst for petty electoral dividends. Request @OfficeOfLGJandK ji to take cognisance & punish the culprits”, Mehbooba tweeted.

The association convenor, Nasir Khuehami, told Free Press Kashmir that they have raised the issue with the JK Lieutenant Governor’s office and ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh to ensure that those responsible for the thrashing incident of MBBS students are brought to justice.

Khuehami added that they are working closely with the authorities to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future.

In response, Lieutenant Governor’s Media Advisor Yatish Yadav emphasized that there is zero tolerance towards anyone who tries to disturb communal harmony. We have been assured that timely action will be taken, and a special security meeting will be held to address this incident, Khuehami said while quoting ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh.
