Six Iranian border guards were killed in clashes with an armed group in the unrest-ridden region of Sistan-Baluchestan in the country’s southeast, international media reported.
Local prosecutor Mehdi Shamsabadi was quoted by the judiciary’s Mizan Online website as claiming that the guards were killed in Saravan, close to Iran’s border with Pakistan.
According to a local news source, Fars, the attack on Sunday was carried out by “a terrorist group that was trying to infiltrate the country” but “fled across the border after the clash.”
