Srinagar: The Government officials of Jammu and Kashmir have been instructed to update their social media display pictures (DPs) with selfies featuring images of the Indian flag, soil, and an earthen lamp (Jhanda, Mitti, and Diya) to celebrate Independence Day of India on August 15.

This decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta to review the preparations for Independence Day-2023.

The directive applies to various officials and departments, including Administrative Secretaries, Information Department, Divisional Commissioners for both Kashmir and Jammu, Deputy Commissioners (DCs), and Heads of the Departments (HODs).

They have been tasked with ensuring that the instructions are implemented effectively. The main function will take place at two locations: Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Sonawar, Srinagar, and Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu. Everyone, including government officers and the general public, is encouraged to hoist the tricolor flag over their homes, reads an official document.

The document emphasizes the need to do so in a proper and respectful manner, following the guidelines specified in the flag code. Security arrangements at all event venues across Jammu and Kashmir will be overseen by the Additional Director General of Police (Security), Jammu and Kashmir.

The Inspector General (IG) Traffic has been assigned the responsibility of planning appropriate routes and parking arrangements for the main events in Srinagar and Jammu.

Government employees are expected to participate in the celebrations, and taking leave on this day is discouraged unless under exceptional circumstances, said the official order.

To enhance the festive spirit, all government buildings, offices, schools, colleges, universities, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), panchayats, blocks, tehsils, and patwar khanas will be adorned with decorative lights, and the national flag of India will be hoisted on their premises. Videos of these celebrations are to be shared with the respective Divisional Commissioners, and the Information Department is tasked with creating awareness among all stakeholders regarding the appropriate way to hoist the national flag in adherence to the flag code, the order mentioned.
