Srinagar: Days after a viral video of a man asking people to bulldoze shrines across Kashmir went viral, the Shergarhi Srinagar Police station registered a case and arrested the person identified as Mutahir Dar, a resident of Mahoo in Banihal.
He was arrested under first information report (FIR) number 45/ 2023 U/S 153A, 295 of Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups and provoking people to attack religious symbols.
In a controversial video that sparked outrage, a bearded man claimed to have had a dream in which he encountered Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jeelani, a revered Sufi saint. In this dream, the man asserted that the saint instructed him to demolish all Khanqahs (Sufi shrines or spiritual centers) located in Kashmir. The video’s content provoked widespread anger and was met with strong reactions from various communities and religious groups.
“He (Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jeelani) provided me the phone number of the JCB driver and asked me to get all the shrines in Kashmir bulldozed,” the man claimed in the video.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has termed the man Zustakh (Someone who is disrespectful to someone they ought to respect) and said, “Enemies of Aulia and their Ziyarats are the enemies of humanity and will be dealt punished without any concession.”
