Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha unfurled the national flag of India in Srinagar on the country’s 77th Independence Day on Tuesday. While addressing the gathering at the function, Sinha said the dividends of peace and development are becoming visible in the UT.

A foolproof security arrangements were in place for the smooth conduct of the function, said an official, adding no restrictions were put in place and there is also no pass needed to enter the Bakshi Stadium.

Bakshi Stadium has hosted the main Independence Day function of Jammu and Kashmir over the decades but had to be closed in 2018 for upgradation and renovations. 

The chief minister usually presided over the function but in absence of an elected government, the governor of the erstwhile state would hoisted the flag. 

Since the abrogation of Article 370 and reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, the Lieutenant Governor appointed by the Government of India remains the chief guest at these functions.

The LG said that this year 1.27 crore tourists visited JK while Amarnath Yatra is going on peacefully. “For the first time in 34 years, Muharram procession was allowed to pass through traditional routes,” he said.

“Kashmir is witnessing home stays, tentage facilities, while film policy, and opening of 300 new tourist destinations for tourists is something JK is witnessing,” he said.

The LG said that JK government will provide every possible opportunity to youth to excel in various fields. He said JK witnesses 20 lakh e-transactions every day making it one of the digitally transformed places. The LG said that Azaadi Ka AmritKal that will happen in 2047, JK will be counted as one of the country’s best and progressive places.
