Pulwama: In a case of hit and run, a speeding tipper, carrying macadam for a nearby village Tujjan where road construction by R&B department is underway, hit a man in Gusoo area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama, resulting in his dead.

The incident occurred at around 10:00am, and Manzoor Ahmad Wani was expeditiously transported to a district hospital in a critical state.

Subsequently, due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to a hospital in Srinagar for advanced medical care. However, Wani succumbed to his injuries during the transfer.

The agitated family members briefed journalists about the inident to journalists and sought action against the erring driver.

Wani was engaged as a private teacher. At the time of the accident, he was commuting to his school on his motorcycle. Following the collision, the driver of the tipper left the accident site, but later surrendered himself to the police. The driver is currently in police custody.

It is noteworthy that unauthorized extraction of sand, stones, and boulders from water bodies and streams throughout Pulwama continues unchecked, in violation of the prohibition on such activities for construction purposes.

Despite a comprehensive ban on illicit extraction and unauthorized mining from riverbeds, watercourses, water bodies, and tributaries, vehicles engaged in these activities persistently operate without restraint.

Local residents residing near these water bodies voice concerns about the unregulated extraction activities, emphasizing that they have intensified the risk of flooding in adjacent residential areas.

Furthermore, these activities have led to the deterioration of nearby roads, streets, embankments, and have contributed to noise pollution within these localities.
