New Delhi: The Supreme Court has instructed the Muzaffarnagar Superintendent of Police to provide a status report regarding the investigation into the case where a student was reportedly slapped by fellow students at the behest of a teacher. Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal have asked the SP to detail the measures taken to ensure the safety of the student and his parents.

Furthermore, the apex court has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government, requesting a response by September 25. This development comes in response to a PIL filed by Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, who seeks a prompt investigation into the student slapping incident.

The Muzaffarnagar Police have already filed a case against the teacher accused of making communal comments and instructing students to slap a Muslim classmate for failing to complete his homework. Additionally, the state education department has served a notice to the school regarding this matter. The teacher in question, Tripta Tyagi, was booked following the circulation of a video depicting her actions, including the communal remark and the physical act.
