Rajouri: A search operation launched by armed forces is underway in Broh-Soom areas of  Kalakote tehsil in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, the officials said on Wednesday.

The joint operation by the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force was launched in the area after specific intelligence about the movement of some unidentified individuals was received by JK police.

On October 2, initially some gunshots were heard from the area but they were termed as ‘speculative fire’ by official later. In late evening on the same day, the contact got established and intense firing started from both the sides.

The search operation in the area has been widened, with no new reports of gunfire emerging thus far. Senior officials are said to be closely overseeing the situation at the site of the operation.

Army had said that the operation was being conducted in “difficult terrain” and efforts are being done to “avoid collateral damage”.

Earlier, two army personnel were injured in the operation with militants whose number was suspected to be 2-3.

A defence spokesperson based in Jammu in a statement said that the operation was still under progress. He said that it is based on “timely and accurate intelligence and that there is “full synergy with JKP.”

“The operation is being conducted in difficult terrain, therefore it is being done very deliberately to avoid collateral damage,” he said.
