Seven of family, elderly couple killed in building fire in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: blaze that swept through a five-story residential building in Hyderabad’s Nampally area claimed the lives of seven family members and an elderly couple on Monday morning.

The fire department reported that as the flames spread, thick black smoke filled the building, leading to fatalities caused by either asphyxiation or burns.

The victims include Mohammed Azam, 58, his wife Rehana Sultana, 50, their daughters Faiza Sameen, 26, and Dr. Tahura Farheen, 35, as well as their son Hasib-ur-Rahman, 32.

Additionally, Tarooba, 13, and Tooba, 6, the children of Dr. Farheen, who was visiting her parents, perished in the fire.

Mohammed Zakir Hussain, 66, and his wife Nikath Sultana, 55, were also among the casualties.

Fire and police personnel rescued at least 12 others, some with soot and burns, while the Osmania General Hospital received the first injured person at 10.22 am.

Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararjan and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of nine lives.

The Telangana Government has announced a Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the families of the deceased.
