Srinagar: Omar Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, challenged the BJP’s claims linking Article 370 to the current violence in Kashmir. He highlighted that the troubled history of the region can be clearly linked to events in 1987, rather than the constitutional provision.

In response to the BJP’s argument that Article 370 was the main cause of violence and separatism in Kashmir, Abdullah raised a question, as reported by India Today. He wondered why there wasn’t violence right after Article 370 was put into effect in 1950 and why it only started in 1987.

“If Article 370 was the root cause of militancy in JK, then militancy should have started in 1947 not in 1987. For 40 years prior to 1987 you still had no militancy”, he said.
