Srinagar: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti would attend the meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance on Tuesday in New Delhi.

Talking to news agency Kashmir News Observer, member parliament from Anantnag, Justice (retd.) Hasnain Masoodi confirmed that NC would attend the meeting. He said Dr Farooq Abdullah would represent the party.

PDP spokesperson Najmu Saqib confirmed participation of Mehbooba Mufti in the meeting.

As of now, there are bleak chances of a seat-sharing pact between NC and PDP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Kashmir Valley.

During the alliance’s last meeting, National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah proposed that the seats already held by the INDIA alliance members shouldn’t come up for discussion and only those seats held by BJP and non-INDIA alliance parties should come up for seat-sharing.

Omar’s suggestion made it clear that NC wouldn’t enter into a pre-poll pact with PDP in Kashmir. In the last Lok Sabha election held in 2019, NC won all three seats of Kashmir. The party defeated Peoples Conference in Baramulla, Peoples Democratic Party in Srinagar and Congress in Anantnag.
