Eleven drug peddlers arrested across Kashmir, say police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday said to have arrested 11 drug peddlers in Baramulla, Sopore and Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party of police post Wussan headed by Incharge PP Wussan at a checkpoint established at Sultanpora, intercepted a person identified as Sajad Rasool Dar, son of Ghulam Rasool Dar, a resident of Palhallan Pattan, a police spokesperson said in a statement.

During the search, 53 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession.

Similarly, a police party of police station Uri headed by SHO at a checkpoint established at Laghama-Paranpeelan road near forest hut, intercepted four persons identified as Nowkhaiz Khan Awan son of Kalu Khan Awan, Yasir Ahmad Khan son of Shakeel Ahmad both residents of Paranpeelan, Abdul Waheed Ganie son of Abdul Qayoom resident of Tilawari and Sibti Hassan Halwai son of Ibin Hassan resident of Kila Kiratpur Bijnor UP at present Uri, police said.

During search, 70 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession.

In Sopore, a police party of Police Station of Dangiwacha at a checkpoint established at Hadipora Chowk intercepted three persons identified as Farooq Ahmad Malla @Hilal son of Abdul Rahim resident of Hadipora Rafiabad, Firdous Ahmad Dar son of Muhammad Sultan Dar and Riyaz Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Muhammad Ganie both the residents of Reban.

During search, 100 grams of Charas like substance, cash amounting to Rs4400 (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) and three mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

Similarly, a police party of Police Component Rafiabad at a checkpoint established at Laiser Crossing intercepted a person identified as Mehraj ud Din Mir son of Abdul Khaliq Mir resident of Omar Colony Chijhama Rafiabad.

During search, 50 grams of charas like substance, cash amounting to Rs13500 (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) and a mobile phone was recovered from his possession, police said.

In Budgam, during routine naka checking near Srinagar International Airport, police party of Police Post Humhama intercepted a vehicle (Maruti Alto) bearing registration No JK04H 8579 driven by Javid Ahmed Dar, son of Abdul Ahad Dar, a  resident of Gagoo Humhama.

During search of said vehicle, charas like substance weighing about 70 grams and 58 strips of Alprazolam was recovered from his possession. Vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized. Similarly, during Naka checking at Khansahib near Ahle Hadees Masjid, a police party of police station Khansahib intercepted a suspicious person carrying two nylon bags who on seeing police party tried to flee from the spot however was tactfully apprehended.

He has been identified as Khurshid Ahmed Mir, son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, a resident of Khansahib. During search, semi grinded charas like substance weighing about 2kg and 380 grams was recovered from his possession. All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody.

Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been taken up.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said. (KNO)
