Jammu: A low intensity explosion in Poonch sparked panic among locals and armed forces late last night.
An official told the news agency Kashmir News Observer that the blast occurred near a religious place, following which armed forces personnel reached to the spot.
“Preliminary investigation suggested that the blast was apparently caused by hurling of a grenade by suspected militants,” he said, adding that the area has been cordoned off.
SSP Poonch Yougal Manhas told KNO that investigation has been started and details will be shared later.
“Necessary investigation into the matter has been set into motion to ascertain the exact nature of the material, which apparently looks like a handmade crude substance,” the SSP said.
