Sole purpose of arrest is to humiliate me, says Kejriwal

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in an alleged liquor policy scam, has criticised the Enforcement Directorate (ED), saying they arrested him to embarrass and weaken him.

Kejriwal argued for temporary relief before the Delhi High Court, claiming the ED lacked any evidence or reason for his arrest, NDTV reported.

“The sole purpose of the arrest is to humiliate and incapacitate me,” NDTV quoted Kejriwal as saying.

Kejriwal, who leads the AAP party, accused the ED of trying to hinder his participation in elections and harm his party.

His lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, stated that the ED had no evidence against Kejriwal and criticised their hasty actions.

Singhvi emphasised the importance of fair elections and accused the ED of trying to damage the AAP before the elections even began.

Singhvi also questioned the ED’s repeated summonses to Kejriwal, suggesting they were unfairly prejudiced against him.

He argued that Kejriwal’s failure to respond to the summons was not significant and criticized the agency’s handling of the situation.
