Today on April 8, a rare total solar eclipse swept across north America, delighting skywatchers in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. This celestial event occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Sun and the Earth, casting a shadow over specific regions. However, it won’t be visible to skywatchers in India.

The eclipse, visible as a partial eclipse outside the path of totality, was also observed in parts of south America and the north Atlantic. Spectators were reminded to use proper eye protection, such as eclipse glasses or solar viewing filters, to safely view the phenomenon.

Astronomers and enthusiasts alike were captivated by the eclipse, which provided a unique opportunity to witness the cosmic spectacle. The event serves as a reminder of the wonders of our solar system and the ongoing exploration of celestial phenomena.

“A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk,” NASA’s official website stated,” the NASA wrote in its website.

Stargazers are advised to look at direct sunlight as it is dangerous to do so without safety gear or eye protection. To see this celestial beauty, one must use specialised eye protection.

To safeguard your eyes, people should use a special-purpose solar filter over the front optics of the telescope, camera lens, or binoculars before any part of the bright Sun is viewed.
