Pulwama: In response to recent challenges faced by apple growers in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Fruit and Vegetable Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA) has taken steps to address critical concerns highlighted by the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union.

JKPICCA, dedicated to supporting the welfare of horticulture growers, has convened meetings to investigate root causes and implement immediate actions, the association said in a statement.

The association aims to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to find effective solutions that benefit the entire industry.

Recent hailstorms, gusty winds, and fluctuating weather patterns have resulted in losses for growers, compounded by issues such as the influx of spurious pesticides and imported fruits.

JKPICCA acknowledges these challenges and is actively working with farmers to provide assistance, optimise fruit storage benefits, and tackle the issue of imported produce to safeguard local growers’ interests.

The association also recognises the impact of excessive fruit availability on market conditions and is committed to restoring market equilibrium to ensure fair pricing for growers and dealers alike, the statement said.
