A 24-year-old YouTuber, Saad Ahmed, was shot dead by a security guard in Karachi, Pakistan, while filming a vlog ahead of the India vs Pakistan cricket match in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in New York.
Ahmed was recording his vlog in the crowded Serena mobile market on June 4 when he was shot, according to Geo TV.
Eyewitnesses said Ahmed was engaging with shopkeepers as part of the build-up to the match scheduled for June 9. When he approached security guard Gul Hassan to include him in the video, the situation escalated, and Hassan opened fire on Ahmed.
CCTV footage shared on social media shows the security guard approaching and shooting Ahmed, hitting him in the shoulder. Ahmed collapsed as bystanders rushed to help.
Police arrived quickly and, with rescue teams, transported Ahmed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The security guard has been detained, and his weapon confiscated. Hassan claimed that Ahmed’s filming gestures provoked him. Police noted that Hassan, from Waziristan, had difficulty understanding Urdu.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at Taimuria Police Station by Ahmed’s father, Mukhtiar Ahmed, naming the security guard, the security company, and the mobile market administration, alleging negligence despite prior permission for the video shoot.
