Baramulla: A military operation against militants is underway in Uri sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Saturday evening.

The operation started when armed forces launched a search operation in Bajrang-Uri sector following specific information about the presence of some militants, the officials said.

They said the hiding militants opened fire on the armed forces personnel, who retaliated, thereby triggering the operation.

Meanwhile, the Army’s Chinar Corps, in a post on ‘X’, said: “Based on specific intelligence inputs, an anti infiltration Operation was launched in the Uri Sector. Contact was established with infiltrating terrorists and operations are in progress.”

On June 19, two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed while two armed forces personnel were injured in an operation that broke out in the Rafiabad area of Baramulla district. On 17 June, a local militant was killed with armed forces in Aragam Bandipora. (KNO)
