Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of the Ram temple, said that water was leaking from the roof of the sanctum sanctorum following the first heavy rains since the temple opened to the public.
This issue was observed after the showers on Saturday at midnight. The chairman of the temple construction committee, Nripendra Mishra, visited the site and ordered repairs to the roof to make it waterproof, according to sources from the temple trust.
Das criticised the construction quality, pointing out that there was no proper drainage system for rainwater in the temple premises.
He urged the authorities to address these issues immediately. In a separate statement, Mishra mentioned that the construction of the first floor is ongoing and expected to be completed by July, with the entire temple anticipated to be finished by December.
Speaking to reporters, Acharya Satyendra Das emphasized that the leakage was significant, occurring directly above the area where the priest sits in front of Ram Lalla’s idol, which is also where VIP visitors come for darshan.
He expressed surprise that despite the involvement of engineers from across the country, the roof still leaked, questioning the oversight in such a prominent project.
Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai also commented, criticizing the BJP for what he described as corruption and substandard construction efforts in Ayodhya, alleging that the issues with the temple and surrounding infrastructure highlight broader problems of negligence and hurried work for electoral gain.
