Israel launched new strikes in southern Gaza on Tuesday, forcing hundreds of Palestinians to flee after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued another mass evacuation order for much of Khan Younis.

Witnesses reported multiple strikes in and around the city, resulting in eight deaths and over 30 injuries, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent and a medical source, reported Agence France-Presse.

The strikes led to warnings of a potential new ground assault on Khan Younis. Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee ordered residents and displaced people to evacuate immediately.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the new evacuation order, stating that it shows there is no safe place in Gaza for Palestinian civilians and called for a ceasefire.

At least 23 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, bringing the overall death toll to 37,900 since last October 7, last year, the Health Ministry in the battered enclave said on Monday.

A ministry statement added that at least 87,060 other people have also been injured in the ongoing onslaught.

Most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have fled their homes, many multiple times. Israeli restrictions, ongoing fighting, and the breakdown of public order have severely impacted the delivery of humanitarian aid, leading to widespread hunger and fears of famine.
