Aligarh: Eleven days after a Muslim man, Aurangzeb alias Farid, was lynched by a group of Hindu men, an FIR has been filed against the victim, his brother, and five others on charges of dacoity and assaulting a woman.

Aurangzeb, 35, was attacked on June 18, allegedly for attempting theft at a Hindu trader’s house, The Wire reported.

On June 29, Laxmi Rani Mittal filed an FIR accusing Aurangzeb and six others of robbery and molestation. She claimed the men stole jewelry and cash, and Aurangzeb was injured while fleeing.

Mittal said the delay in filing the FIR was due to the commotion on the incident day and difficulty registering her complaint. Police confirmed the FIR but have not made arrests yet.

Aurangzeb’s brother, Mohammed Zaki, also filed an FIR on June 18 against 10 Hindus for murder, stating the attackers identified Aurangzeb as a Muslim, the report said.

Four arrests were made in this case. A video of the lynching was widely shared on social media.

Local BJP MLA Mukta Raja supports those arrested for the lynching, alleging false implications, leading to communal tension and protests but no further violence.
