New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has strongly denounced Israel’s “genocidal actions” in Gaza. She stated that it is the “moral responsibility of every right-thinking person, including Israeli citizens who oppose hatred and violence, and every government worldwide, to condemn the Israeli government’s genocidal actions and compel them to stop.”
Her comments came after Netanyahu defended Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians, which has been ongoing for ten months and has resulted in nearly 40,000 deaths, during a speech to the US Congress on Wednesday.
Criticising Israel’s actions, Priyanka said, “In a world that claims to uphold civility and morality, Israel’s actions are unacceptable. Instead, we witness the Israeli Prime Minister receiving a standing ovation in the US Congress.”
She also criticised the global response to the conflict, saying, “Their barbarism is receiving unwavering support from most of the western world. It is truly shameful to watch.”
Additionally, she remarked, “Netanyahu calls it ‘a clash between barbarism and civilization.’ He is absolutely correct, except that he and his government are the ones who are barbaric.”
Flouting a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on Gaza since an October 7, 2023, when a Palestinian group Hamas retaliated against decades-long occupational crimes committed against Palestinians.
Over nine months into the Israeli genocide, vast tracts of Gaza lie in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, whose latest ruling ordered Tel Aviv to immediately halt its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war before it was invaded on May 6.
