Assembly polls: GoI deploys 300 paramilitary units in Kashmir, 55 companies in Srinagar alone

Srinagar: The Government of India (GoI) has deployed 300 paramilitary companies for election duties across the Kashmir valley, PTI reported quoting officials.

These companies have been dispatched to various districts, including Srinagar, Handwara, Ganderbal, Budgam, Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Anantnag, Shopian, Pulwama, Awantipora, and Kulgam, to ensure the smooth conduct of the assembly elections.

Specifically, 298 companies, comprising personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), have been tasked with maintaining security during the elections. Among these, Srinagar has received the highest allocation with 55 companies, followed by Anantnag with 50, Kulgam with 31, Budgam, Pulwama, and Awantipora with 24 each, Shopian with 22, Kupwara with 20, Baramulla with 17, Handwara with 15, Bandipora with 13, and Ganderbal with 3.

The notification for the first phase of the three-phase elections was issued earlier on Tuesday. Voting for the first phase is scheduled for September 18, with the second phase on September 25, and the third and final phase on October 1.
