Telangana faces Rs 5,438 crore loss due to heavy rains, says Govt

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has published a report assessing the recent damages caused by heavy rains and floods in the state.

According to the report released by the Telangana CMO on Monday, initial estimates place the total loss at Rs 5438 crore. The breakdown of losses includes Rs 2,362 crore for the Roads and Building Department, Rs 175 crore for the Energy Department (damage to electrical installations), Rs 415 crore for crop loss across 415,000 acres, and Rs 629 crore for irrigation repairs to minor tanks.

Additionally, the report notes losses of Rs 170 crore for the Panchayati Raj & Rural Development, Rs 12 crore for the Medical and Health Department, Rs 25 crore for the Animal Husbandry Department, and Rs 1150 crore for the Municipal Administration. Public property damages are estimated up to Rs 500 crore.

The report mentions the organization of 110 relief camps where over 4000 people were safely accommodated. In Khammam’s Prakash Nagar, the Munneru River water levels rose significantly due to continuous rainfall.

Congress MP Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy from Khammam highlighted the damage to houses caused by the floods, emphasising ongoing rescue, food relief, and rehabilitation efforts despite the cessation of rain.
