Celebrate election day like Eid, wear new clothes, cook good dishes: Jamaat candidate to voters

After a 37-year absence, the Jamaat-e-Islami is re-entering Kashmiri electoral politics by endorsing Sayar Ahmed Reshi, a former educator and independent candidate in Kulgam.

Kulgam: A few days after linking his electoral defeat to a loss for Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami independent candidate Sayar Ahmed Reshi has said that people must celebrate this election like Eid.

In a recent video interview, Reshi, who is the Nazim e Taleem of the now-banned Jamaat-e-Islami, urged his followers to celebrate election day like Eid.

He stated, “Wear new clothes and prepare special dishes at home, making the election day a memorable one.”

Last week, Reshi claimed that his victory would be a triumph for Islam, and if he lost, it would be a defeat for Islam.

Reshi is contesting from the Kulgam assembly segment as an independent candidate backed by the AIP-Jamaat-e-Islami alliance.
