44.8% voter turnout recorded in JK polls by 1pm

Srinagar: The Chief Electoral Officer’s office reported an overall voter turnout of 44.08% across all 40 assembly constituencies in seven districts of JK by 1pm..

This current percentage is expected to increase as traditional voting strongholds, including the border areas of Kupwara, Gurez, and Karnah, are participating in the elections today.

Earlier phases of the elections saw significant voter engagement, with the first phase recording a polling rate of 61.38% and the second phase at 59.11%.

However, Srinagar district had the lowest turnout, with only 27% participation across its eight seats. In the Sonawari constituency, 43.30% of voters cast their ballots, while Bandipora saw a turnout of 40.13%. Gurez reported the highest participation rate at 52.45%, contributing to a cumulative turnout of 42.66% for Bandipora district.
