The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that nearly everyone in Gaza is facing hunger, calling the situation “inhumane.”
“@WHO calls for immediate access to humanitarian aid, prioritizing food and medicine for severely malnourished children who need urgent treatment,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on X.
On Thursday, he reiterated WHO’s call for a cease-fire, emphasizing that “the best medicine is peace.”
Israel has enforced a blockade on Gaza since 2006, often referred to as the world’s largest open-air prison.
Following an October 7 attack last year by Hamas, Israel launched a relentless offensive on Gaza, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.
Local health authorities report that over 42,400 people, mostly women and children, have been killed, with more than 99,100 injured.
The ongoing blockade and attacks have displaced almost the entire population of Gaza, leading to severe shortages of essential resources like food, water, and medicine.
Israel now faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
