Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has warned of the high possibility of a war between Israel and Iran.

Speaking on a television programme, Fidan stressed that assessing the potential for conflict as a “high possibility” is the most prudent course of action for regional countries. He highlighted that although Türkiye opposes any conflict with Iran, it recognises Iran’s right to legitimate self-defence.

Fidan emphasised that Türkiye has no interest in regional instability and does not support any conflict that could lead to widespread war, but noted that the situation may evolve beyond control. He also mentioned that Türkiye remains focused on regional development, stability, and prosperity, and does not have any territorial ambitions.

On the topic of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Yahya Sinwar’s reported death, Fidan stated that Türkiye is waiting for confirmation from Hamas, noting that no denial has been received so far. He further expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling it an “open-air cemetery” due to the ongoing Israeli offensive.

Additionally, Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s stance against US collaboration with the PKK terror group, urging Washington to end this cooperation. He expressed hope that the US, UK, and other countries would reconsider their relationships with the PKK in Syria and Iraq, stating that Türkiye remains serious about protecting its security interests in these regions.
