A drone targeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea on Saturday, just hours after the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Netanyahu’s office confirmed that neither he nor his wife was at the location, and no injuries were reported. The Israeli military indicated the drone was launched from Lebanon and hit a building. Two additional drones that crossed into Israeli airspace were intercepted.
Although Hezbollah has been engaged in conflict with Israel since the October 7 Hamas attacks, the group did not claim responsibility for this drone attack, nor did any other militant organisation. The incident follows ongoing exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah, with Israel recently destroying a Hezbollah command center. The broader conflict, including ongoing Israeli strikes in Lebanon, has resulted in over 1,400 deaths in Lebanon since late September.
This escalation comes a day after Israel’s military killed Sinwar, who orchestrated the October 7 attacks that claimed the lives of over 1,200 Israelis and led to the capture of more than 250 hostages. Sinwar had taken over as Hamas leader following the death of Ismail Haniyeh.
