Srinagar: Authorities temporarily closed the Gulmarg Gondola rope-way in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday as a safety precaution following a militant attack that left five people dead – two civilians hired as porters by army and three army personnel. The death mounted to five after an injured armed forces personnel succumbed to his injuries on Friday afternoon.

Officials stated, “The Gondola cable car service in Gulmarg’s Bota Pathri sector has been temporarily suspended after the attack to ensure the safety of tourists and staff.”

The Gondola, a year-round tourist attraction known for its breathtaking mountain views, is expected to resume operations after security evaluations are completed. Local authorities are coordinating closely with security agencies to monitor the situation.

Gulmarg’s Gondola is the second-longest and second-highest cable car in the world. It has two stages: the first lifts passengers from Gulmarg at 8,694 feet to Kongdoori station, and the second takes them up to 13,058 feet near the Apharwat peak at 13,976 feet.
