Kishtwar: District Magistrate (DM) Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan, has invoked the J&K Public Safety Act (PSA) of 1978 against five for “anti-India activities” in Kishtwar.

The persons facing PSA charges include Mohd Abdullah Gujjar, son of Haji Nabi Baksh Gujjar from Sigdi Bhata; Noor Din, son of Habib Gujjar from Kakerwagan; Ghulam Nabi Choppan, son of Abdul Aziz Chopan from Trungi (Dachhan); Mohd Jaffer Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohd Sheikh from Nattas (Dool); and Mohd Ramzan, son of Mir Zaman from Dangduroo (Dachhan).

Each of them have a record of ‘anti-national and anti-social activities’, and authorities noted their reluctance to cease illegal actions, Daily Excelsior reported quoting officials.

The PSA orders, issued to prevent potential threats to public order and the security of the Union Territory, were promptly executed by the police upon receipt.

The report quoting sources said that the DM has also directed agencies to monitor an additional 22 people suspected of hindering projects of national importance. These persons are reportedly spreading misinformation and fostering an ‘anti-national’ mindset aimed at slowing down major developmental projects, allegedly as part of a broader conspiracy.
