The United States has launched a new $1 coin bearing the portrait of President Donald Trump as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
The US Mint released the 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin on Wednesday, with rolls and bags available for purchase. The coin features Trump’s portrait on the obverse, alongside the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST”, and “1776 ~ 2026.”
The back features the presidential seal with the number 250 on the shield to mark the semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary, of the United States. The coin’s design, which is based on an official White House photograph by Daniel Torok, was created by US Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna.
Mint Director Paul Hollis said the design “commemorates America’s Semiquincentennial through its depiction of America’s past, present and future.”
The coins are legal tender and have a circulating finish, though the Mint says the pieces sold in rolls and bags have not been put into general circulation. A roll of 25 coins is $61 and a bag of 100 is $154.50.
Trump is the first living US president to appear on US currency in decades, which is an unusual break from the usual practice of depicting dead people.
