Kashmiris in Bengaluru: ‘Lokchaar’ event brings culture and creativity to life

The event featured live readings, author meet-and-greets, and creative activities.

Bengaluru:  Kashmiri families in Bengaluru gathered last week for “Lokchaar – The Kashmiri Childhood,” an event organised by The Quillers’ Club in partnership with Sarposh Foods, which offered Kashmiri children a chance to engage in traditional games, storytelling, and cultural activities.

The event also marked the launch of The Adventures of Iya and Zoey, a new children’s book by author Ambreen Rasool, aimed at introducing young readers to the customs, cuisine, and landscapes of Kashmir.

The event featured live readings, author meet-and-greets, and creative activities inspired by the book’s themes, along with a Kashmiri-style tea spread that included traditional Kahwa and Nun chai served with Shirmal and Kulche. “It was heart-warming to see our children connect with their roots in such a meaningful way,” said Insha Latif, a parent who attended the event.

The Adventures of Iya and Zoey follows a young girl’s journey to her Kashmiri homeland, where she explores cultural traditions with the help of her grandparents and her talking pet, Zoey. Illustrated by Kubra Shah, the book is now available online and at select bookstores in Srinagar.
