Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political committee has released an official statement following a key meeting, emphasising the need for full access to party founder Imran Khan amid growing concerns about his health and safety, as reported by ARY News.
In the statement issued on Sunday, the committee underscored public anxiety over Imran Khan’s well-being and called for the immediate restoration of access for his family, legal team, and party representatives to ensure transparency.
The PTI urged the federal and Punjab governments, along with jail authorities, to provide regular updates on Khan’s health. It also appealed to the judiciary to safeguard his fundamental rights and ensure adequate security measures.
The committee warned that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and relevant state institutions would be held accountable for any negligence affecting Khan’s safety.
Earlier on Sunday, Adiala Jail authorities stated that Imran Khan was in good health, dispelling rumors of his transfer to another location. Sources confirmed that Khan was being held in a cell under New Town police jurisdiction and remained on physical remand until December 2 in connection with a case stemming from the September 28 protest.
According to jail officials, daily medical checkups showed Khan’s blood pressure and sugar levels were normal. They added that he stays fit with regular exercise and is receiving all facilities as per jail manual guidelines, including special attention to his diet and overall care.
Meanwhile, on December 30, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore found Khan guilty of charges related to the events of May 9 and denied his bail in eight cases. The six-page ruling by Judge Manzar Ali Gul cited significant evidence, including audio and video recordings, implicating Khan in incitement to violence.
