UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Sunday to discuss strategies for averting further crises in the Middle East, according to the UAE’s official news agency WAM.

During their discussions, the leaders emphasised the importance of strengthening Arab cooperation to tackle the region’s complex challenges.

The meeting occurred against the backdrop of rising tensions in Syria, where rebel groups have advanced into government-held areas, claiming control of cities in Aleppo and Idlib provinces, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia underscored the need for unified efforts to maintain regional stability and avoid new crises that could jeopardize security. On the Palestinian issue, they reiterated their commitment to achieving a just, lasting peace through a two-state solution, ensuring stability and security for all.

In parallel, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in phone discussions with his counterparts from Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt. These talks focused on the security implications of regional developments, particularly in Syria. Sheikh Abdullah reiterated the UAE’s support for Syria in combating terrorism and extremism, while expressing hopes for Iraq’s continued stability and prosperity, WAM reported.

The meetings reflect shared concerns over regional issues and the importance of fostering collaboration to address common challenges, WAM added.
