Vijay Diwas: President Murmu, Modi, Rajnath pay tributes to army personnel who lost lives in 1971 war with Pakistan

President of India Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led the nation in observing Vijay Diwas on Tuesday, honouring the martyrs of the 1971 war.

The 1971 war marked a military triumph for India against Pakistan, paving the way for the creation of Bangladesh as an independent nation.

In a message shared on the platform X, President Murmu expressed deep gratitude to the army of the 1971 war, stating: “On Vijay Diwas, I pay homage to our valiant soldiers who displayed unmatched courage, securing victory for India. A grateful nation remembers the ultimate sacrifice of our bravehearts, whose inspiring stories are a source of national pride.”

Modi said, “On Vijay Diwas, we honour the courage and sacrifices of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic 1971 victory. Their unwavering dedication safeguarded the nation and brought us glory. Their extraordinary valour and selfless resolve will forever inspire generations and remain etched in our history.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised the resilience of the armed forces, stating: “On Vijay Diwas, the nation salutes the bravery and sacrifice of our armed forces. Their patriotism ensured the safety of our country. India will always remember their service and sacrifice.”

Vijay Diwas commemorates India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.
