Constable arrested for killing trainee cop in Ganderbal, say officials

Ganderbal: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal district has arrested one of its constables for allegedly killing a trainee police officer at the Police Training Centre Manigam. The incident, occurred three days ago.
Official sources told Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com that on December 22, 2024, at the Police Training Centre Manigam, trainee police officer Sareer Ahmad Awan, a resident of Boniyar Uri, was heading to his duty at dawn when he was shot by constable Babu Ram, who was stationed at the bunker for security. As a result, Sareer Ahmad Awan died on the spot.
According to sources, the shooter, constable Babu Ram, a resident of Jammu and part of Battalion 114 IRP, was immediately arrested.
 A case has been registered against him under FIR No. 307/2024, Section 103 BNS, and further investigations have begun.
The police are trying to ascertain the reasons behind the constable’s firing at the trainee officer.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased police officer has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and called for the strictest possible punishment for the police constable involved in the shooting.
