Cold wave continues across Kashmir; Gulmarg shivers at minus 11.5°C

Srinagar: Several parts of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh recorded freezing temperatures, with Zojila emerging as the coldest place at a bone-chilling -26.0°C.

In the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -3.5°C, while Qazigund and Pahalgam registered -7.5°C and -8.4°C, respectively. The ski resort of Gulmarg was among the coldest in the region, touching -11.5°C. Other notable readings included Shopian at -9.1°C, Larnoo at -11.8°C, and Khudwani at -8.2°C. Kupwara, however, was an outlier, with the temperature just above freezing at 0.1°C.

In Jammu division, relatively warmer temperatures were observed, though several places experienced sub-zero readings. Banihal recorded -2.3°C, while Padder registered -2.6°C.

Bhaderwah recorded -1.4°C, and Batote saw the mercury settle at 1.5°C. Jammu city remained the warmest in the region with a minimum of 7.1°C, closely followed by Kathua at 9.0°C.

The Ladakh region also reeled under extreme cold. Leh recorded -11.0°C, Kargil registered -14.0°C, and Drass, one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth, touched -18.4°C.
