Gaza’s civil defence reported hundreds of distress calls from displaced families as rainwater flooded tents and shelters, worsening the plight of thousands already struggling with harsh living conditions, Al Jazeera reported.

The flooding adds to the severe humanitarian crisis in the enclave, compounded by ongoing Israeli strikes and the systematic hindrance of aid access, as said by the UN’s humanitarian agency, OCHA.

In the midst of plummeting temperatures, local authorities confirmed the death of a seventh forcibly displaced Palestinian due to hypothermia. The freezing conditions continue to threaten the lives of countless others lacking adequate shelter and resources.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces have escalated operations, including airstrikes in Jabalia, north Gaza, that killed four Palestinians, and raids in the occupied West Bank, where four arrests were made in Qalqilya. Palestinian authorities also reported the deaths of five detainees from Gaza in Israeli custody, sparking calls for accountability and the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, the detained director of Kamal Adwan Hospital.

The death toll in Gaza has now reached 45,541, with over 108,000 wounded since October 7, 2023.

In a related development, Houthi forces in Yemen claimed responsibility for targeting Ben Gurion Airport and a power station in occupied East Jerusalem, prompting a stern warning from Israel’s ambassador to the UN, who threatened retaliation if attacks persisted.

As the conflict rages on, the humanitarian toll deepens, with Gaza’s residents facing escalating violence, blocked aid, and now, devastating floods.
