Chandauli: In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli, a groom abandoned his wedding due to a delay in serving food, only to marry his cousin later the same day, IANS reported quoting police.

The bride’s family, who claimed to have given ₹1.5 lakh to the groom’s family before the ceremony, sought justice from the police. The bride recounted that her marriage to Mehtab had been arranged seven months prior, and on December 22, his family was warmly welcomed at her home in Hamidpur village.

However, tensions rose when a minor delay in serving food led to teasing by Mehtab’s friends. This escalated into abuse and an argument, during which Mehtab’s family allegedly insulted and assaulted the bride’s parents. Despite efforts by village elders to mediate, Mehtab refused to proceed with the wedding and returned home.

To the bride’s shock, Mehtab later married his cousin that same day. The bride’s family reported the incident to the police, stating they had incurred losses of ₹7 lakh, including wedding expenses for about 200 guests and the amount paid to the groom’s family.

Following the complaint, Superintendent of Police Aditya Laghe mediated a resolution. Both parties agreed on a settlement, with ₹1.61 lakh to be paid to the bride’s family, according to Circle Officer Rajesh Rai.
