2,200 litres of illegal kerosene seized in Shopian; one arrested

Shopian: Acting on a tip-off about the black-market sale of kerosene oil, district police Shopian seized 2,200 litres of illegal kerosene oil and diesel from a shop in Karlcheck Berthipora.

A police team, along with the Executive Magistrate, conducted the raid.

The seized items include 1,600 litres of kerosene oil and 600 litres of diesel, found in 11 barrels at the shop owned by Showkat Ahmad Hajam, a resident of Karlcheck Berthipora. The accused has been arrested, and a case (FIR No. 02/2025 U/S 3/7 E.C Act) has been registered at police station Keller.

An investigation into the source of the subsidised kerosene oil is underway, and officials involved in facilitating the illegal sale will be dealt with according to the law.

Police urge the community to report any crimes or illegal activities in their neighbourhood to the concerned police units.
