Srinagar: The higher reaches of north Kashmir witnessed heavy snowfall over the past 24 hours, with Gulmarg and Gurez receiving nearly 15 inches of wet snow and some areas accumulating up to 2 feet.

Kupwara district bore the brunt in the plains, recording snowfall ranging from 1 to 4 inches, while its higher reaches saw deposits of up to 1.5 feet. Many other plains of North Kashmir experienced rainfall coupled with light snow.

Central Kashmir recorded 3 to 4 inches of wet snow in the plains as rainfall from yesterday afternoon transitioned into snowfall by evening.

In South Kashmir, Shopian was the worst-hit, receiving 4 inches of wet snow in the plains and up to 1 foot in higher altitudes. Pulwama recorded 1 to 3 inches in its plains, while Anantnag and Kulgam were least affected, with minimal snow accumulation of 1 cm to 1 inch in the plains and up to 1 foot in higher altitudes.

The significant snowfall has disrupted daily life in many areas, with authorities urging residents to exercise caution.
