Srinagar: A deployment of armed forces in Kashmir has been strengthened ahead of January 26 to ensure peaceful and smooth celebrations of the event. Armed forces are conducting sanitisation and area domination operations, officials reported on Wednesday.
The main event will take place at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, with armed forces barricades set up at both the northern and southern gates of the stadium.
Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed across Srinagar and other district headquarters, with checkpoints established at key locations, particularly at city entry points and district boundaries.
Officials stated that random vehicle checks and frisking of citizens are being carried out to prevent the movement of any subversive elements.
Authorities have instructed armed forces to remain vigilant and ensure that peace and order are maintained.
“The security preparations for January 26 are in full swing. Multi-tier security arrangements will be in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for the public,” said V K Birdi, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V K Bhidhuri, assured that this year’s arrangements will surpass previous ones. He also noted that, based on the success of last year’s function, higher-quality LED screens will be installed at the venue, and entry will remain free, as it was last year.
