New Delhi: NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani has said that Class 10 and 12 board examinations will remain unchanged under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Speaking at a three-day National Workshop on NEP 2020 implementation in Odisha, Saklani said that the policy clearly outlines the continuation of these exams, eliminating any confusion, Odisha TV reported.

For students in Classes 5 and 8, exams are designed to ease the transition to secondary education, with provisions for a second attempt for those who do not perform well. This approach ensures students have an opportunity to improve and adapt to academic challenges.

Saklani also highlighted the NEP’s 5+3+3+4 structure, dividing secondary education into two phases: Classes 9–10 and 11–12. He reiterated the importance of contextualising curricula to align with local cultural and civilisational ethos, particularly in Odisha, where the State Curriculum Framework will reflect ‘Odia Asmita.’

GoI Education Minister shared that the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) has been unveiled and will serve as the foundation for Odisha’s state curriculum.

Additionally, the Odisha School and Mass Education Department announced that, starting from the 2025-26 academic year, all primary schools will introduce an additional pre-school class called “Sishu Vatika” for children aged 5-6. The department also clarified that children must be at least six years old as of September 1 for admission to Class 1.
