Srinagar: PDP leader Iltija Mufti has strongly condemned the killing of a truck driver from Sopore in an army firing incident in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. She questioned the security forces’ justification, calling it “shocking” and an example of “unbridled impunity.”
The incident occurred after the driver allegedly ignored a security checkpoint (naka) and was fired upon. Officials claim that armed personnel aimed at the truck’s tyres and the driver was later declared dead.
Reacting to the killing, Mufti said, “How strange that after chasing the truck for over 23 km, they claim to have fired at the tyres but somehow misfired at him instead. Are Kashmiri lives so cheap?” She also drew parallels with the recent Kathua civilian killing, where the deceased was labelled an ‘OGW’ (overground worker).
