WHO warns of dire health crisis in Gaza as only half of hospitals and health centers remain operational
The World Health Organisation’s top official for Gaza, Dr Rik Peeperkorn, reported that only 18 out of 36 hospitals and 57 out of 142 primary health centres remain partially operational.
Between February 1 and 5, 139 injured and sick patients, accompanied by 197 companions, were evacuated to Egypt through the Rafah crossing. However, between 12,000 and 14,000 patients—including 5,000 children—still require urgent medical evacuation. At the current pace, it could take five to ten years to transport them all, leading to preventable deaths among critically ill patients.
