Srinagar: Two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) assigned to Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, have been suspended.
Mehbooba criticised the move, calling it “ironic and unfair.”
In a post on X, she alleged that the officers were punished solely because Iltija managed to reach Kathua despite being “confined to her home like a criminal.”
She also questioned the lack of action against those responsible for the deaths of Waseem Mir in Sopore and Makhan Din in Bilawar, Kathua.
“Ironic and unfair that Iltija’s two PSOs have been suspended for no fault of their own. They were punished simply because Iltija managed to reach Kathua despite being confined to her home like a criminal. Meanwhile, there has been no reported action against those responsible for the deaths of Waseem Mir in Sopore or Makhan Din in Bilawar. The ruling NC government, which came to power promising to ensure security and dignity for the people, remains a silent observer . They thus are not only shirking from their responsibility but also thereby normalizing these unjust and abnormal actions,” reads the post.
Accusing the ruling National Conference (NC) government of failing its promises, Mehbooba said that despite assurances of security and dignity for the people, the administration remains a silent spectator, effectively legitimising such actions.
Earlier, Mehbooba claimed that Iltija was detained at Circuit House in Jammu.
“Visiting and offering solace to the families of victims has now been criminalized. This is evident from the latest actions of the police, who have detained Iltija at the Circuit House in Jammu, preventing her from addressing a press conference. This blatant disregard for our democratic rights as free citizens highlights a disturbing trend. It appears that the ruling party’s understanding of democracy extends only as far as holding elections and forming a government, with little regard for the fundamental freedoms that underpin a true democracy. Very unfortunate and ironical that one NC minister’s visit to Bilawer was facilitated by police and Iltija is being punished for the same,” she posted.
