Awantipora: Days after Jammu and Kashmir Police registered its first-ever e-FIR in Kupwara through WhatsApp, Awantipora’s Khrew police station has followed suit by filing its maiden electronic FIR via email.
District Police Awantipora announced on X platform, “Awantipora Police has registered its first e-FIR based on an email complaint.”
As per a police spokesperson, Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, a resident of New Colony Khrew, lodged the complaint against Adil Ahmad Bhat and Bilal Ahmad Bhat, both residents of the same area. The complainant alleged that his entire family was assaulted, resulting in injuries, and provided supporting documents including an OPD ticket from PHC Khrew and a copy of his Aadhaar card.
Responding to the complaint, police have filed an e-FIR under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Khrew.
In the Kupwara case, Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar, a driver for the State Road Transport Corporation and a resident of Hanjipora, Kupwara, filed a complaint via WhatsApp on February 21.
He alleged that while travelling from Tarathpora to Srinagar, he was wrongfully restrained and physically assaulted by Ashiq Hussain Bhat and Gowher Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Shehnipora, Vilgam. The attack reportedly caused him physical injuries.
In response, Vilgam police station in Handwara swiftly registered an e-FIR under sections 115(2) and 126(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), marking the first-ever electronic FIR in Jammu and Kashmir through WhatsApp.
