Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday relieved Joint Director of Geology and Mining, Jammu, H L Langeh, of his duties and attached him to the administrative department, effectively revoking all his powers with immediate effect, an official spokesperson announced.

The decision follows directives from Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, the spokesperson stated.

The government took this action in response to growing concerns over unauthorised mining, which has led to significant environmental damage and financial losses to the state.

The director of geology and mining, Jammu and Kashmir, has been instructed to submit a detailed report addressing complaints about illegal mining and the issuance of disposal permits. This report will facilitate further investigation and corrective action.

Officials have been directed to enforce mining regulations strictly to prevent further unlawful extraction of mineral resources, the spokesperson added.

Deputy Chief Minister Choudhary emphasized that this move serves as a clear warning that the government will take strict action against any official found negligent or involved in illegal activities.
